Medgar Evers
Medgar Evers was the field secretary for the NAACP. He worked very closely with Martin Luther King Jr. When he was a child he had to walk about three miles to school. After the lynching of Emmit Till, Evers made sure that the criminal who did this was brought to justice by highly publicizing this case. Evers was assassinated by a rifle shot in the back while walking up his driveway.Although he was killed, Medgar Evers legacy lived on through his wife. His wife became NAACP’s first female chairperson from 1995 until 1998.
